Description JINMEI Tatuya 2016-12-01 23:39:20 CET
If you configure an 'inform' type of local-zone with local-data:

	local-zone: example.com inform
	local-data: 'www.example.com IN A'

and send a query for that local data, unbound returns that local data:

% dig @ www.example.com +short

Is that intentional? example.conf says

	# o inform resolves normally, but logs client IP address

and unbound.conf(5) says 'The query is answered normally.'.
"resolves/answered normally" doesn't sound like using the local-data.
In that case either the actual behavior or the documentation is
incorrect (or at least the doc can be confusing IMO).

I've confirmed this for svn trunk revision 3943.

Hi Jinmei,

Yes that was intentional, it resolves like the type 'transparent'. Most people, I guess, don't give a local-data. But if you do, it works like expected. Do you think the documentation should be changed?

As a feature, it is not that useful. But it is also not really a bug.

Best regards, Wouter

okay, in that case I'd suggest revising example.conf from:

	# o inform resolves normally, but logs client IP address

	# o inform same as transparent, but also logs client IP address

and unbound.conf(5) from:

The query is answered normally. The client IP address..

The query is answered like 'transparent'. In
                 addition, the client IP address...

Adjusted the documentation. Thanks for the report.
